Divorce warning reflects Kids In The Middle message
For immediate release 5th January 2009
- ChildLine suggests that more children will suffer from the effects of parental divorce in 2009
- Findings reflect FNF's campaign message that more support is needed for separating families
ChildLine, the children's telephone counselling service, has warned that there is likely to be an increase in the number of children being affected by their parents' divorce. January often sees higher levels of divorce being initiatied and ChildLine reports that more than one child a day calls because of conflict at home.
ChildLine's warning reflects the core message of Kids In The Middle, the recent joint campaign between Families Need Fathers, Fatherhood Institute, Relate and One Parent Families, which called for greater support for families, especially children, experiencing divorce or separation. The campaign, which began with a survey of over 1500 separated families and culminated in the Government's first-ever relationship summit on December 18th and a series of pilot projects providing greater support and improved services for separating families.
Jon Davies, FNF Chief Executive, said "The sad truth is that around a quarter of all our children are being raise by separated parents. We need to make sure that the failure of an adult relationship doesn't damage these children . "
